A Mason's Story

Vic Lewis

In the summer of 2008, a dark area appeared in my left eye and quickly reduced my vision to about 10% of normal. Luckily, I went to my personal ophthalmologist right away, he immediately referred me to a retina doctor at the QEII Eye Care Center. They determined that I had Age-related Wet Macular Degeneration. Since they were involved in a research project with Lucentis in that area, they involved me, and over the course of a year and a half, my vision has returned to nearly 20/20 in both eyes.

They told me that if I had come to them two years later, I would have definitely lost the vision in my left eye. If I had had the benefit of the Spectralis OCT, I would have saved money, time, and cost to the Nova Scotia hospital system. Because the retinal doctors at the Eye Care Center are in the forefront of retinal research, I have been blessed with the good vision I enjoy today. -Vic
